a speakeasy art gallery in a dance boutique

Tiny Dancer Gallery is an intimate speakeasy gallery nestled within a dance boutique in Gowanus, Brooklyn.

In the fall of 2023, South Slope artists Madeleine Matsson and Molly McIntyre approached Brooklyn Dance Lessons Co-Founder Alessandro Spreafico about putting on a holiday art sale featuring artists who are also parents, aka Artists with Offspring. To complement the sale, we curated a show by the participating artists in the small lounge room of the studio. The show remained up for a month, and an idea was born.

While no longer exclusively for parents, Tiny Dancer Gallery seeks to support underrepresented artists around South Brooklyn. As artists ourselves, we know that this city is filled with creators working in small studios, at kitchen tables, in the cemetery, etc. We wanted to create a place for them to share their secrets, their scraps, their thoughts.

Sometimes, the smallest drawings can hold the largest weight and meaning. Our artists, like weeds in the pavement, are resilient, powerful, beautiful, and breaking through to be seen against all odds.

We envision a gallery that transcends traditional confines, fostering a family-friendly atmosphere that encourages community engagement. Live performances will also be ongoing during Sunday afternoon openings on a large outdoor terrasse.

Tiny Dancer Gallery is more than just a creative venture; it is a testament to the power of small spaces to ignite big ideas.
